The three animals that get most of the attention are beaver, geese, and turtles. Follow the links to those pages to learn more. Many other animals are around our lakes, from dragonflies and damsel flies to fishers and deer. We also have a diversity of fish and macro-invertebrates. Some of these animals, such as dragonflies, can be good indicators of water quality. Others, like an overpopulation of geese or deer, can be a reflection of human influence.
Our actions to limit the growth of geese population on our lakes probably provided the fastest and most dramatic improvement in lake experience for our residents. Beaver are their own ecosystem engineers and their return to our lakes are part of a widespread trend as they follow the regrowth of forest in our area.
